While this project was small in nature, it shows that Great Lakes Dock and Materials has a broad fleet of equipment, capable of undertaking most tasks. At this site, the water was so shallow and the entrance so narrow, that normal equipment was not well suited. We were able to utilize our sectional barges, smaller tugs and equipment as well as purpose-built containment systems to deliver and install armor stone to stabilize a portion of the shoreline that had been breached by rising waters and wave action. We also placed stone along the existing breakwall to minimize wave loading and scour. In addition, we were able to dredge and remove a problematic sandbar created by the breach. Sometimes bigger is not always better.
